About Shasta Forage
Shasta forage offers guided wild mushroom foraging experiences in the Mount Shasta region of Northern California, focusing on seasonal edible and choice fungi such as morels, chanterelles, porcini and other regionally significant species.
While edible mushrooms are a primary focus of each outing, each experience is grounded in a broader ecological approach that includes tree and plant identification, habitat reading, and an understanding of how forest composition influences mushroom diversity and seasonality. Many species are closely associated with specific tree hosts, and learning to recognize these relationships is a core part of the experience.
Guests are also introduced to non-edible and toxic species for comparison and safety awareness, helping build a fuller understanding of forest ecosystems and responsible foraging practices. The goal of each tour is to develop practical identification skills alongside a deeper ecological understanding of the Mount Shasta forests
Seasonal conditions and species vary by elevation, precipitation, and forest type.
